David A. Esty is twenty-four years old. For the past seven years he has been married to the very lovely Darlene M. Berry. They have three boys, Nathan (5), Matthew (3), and Benjamin (8 months). They live in Gorham. This dedicated young man knows what he wants, knows where he wants to go, and has already established the credentials which will get him there. This December he graduates from the University of Maine Portland-Gorham with honors, having made the Dean's list all four years of his matriculation, has his B.S. Degree in Social Science. He wants to teach and coach, like he has been doing so successfully for the Gorham Recreation Department while still in College, as well as having been an instructor/counselor at his Alma Mater's summer soccer clinic for the past three years. He has been a substitute teacher of History and Sociology at Gorham High School, as well as U.S. and Maine History, and U.S. Geography at Bonny Eagle Junior High School. From 1974 through 1977, Dave Esty has also found summer work at the S.D. Warren Paper Mill in Westbrook. In addition to obtaining a four year scholastic grade of 3.2, he has played three years of varsity soccer, captain of the team two of those years. The honors he has accrued in his favorite sport reads like a "Who's Who," and are as follows: outstanding performer in the N.A.I.A. Championships, Pasadena, California in 1976; All NESCAC for 3 years; All NAIA for 3 years; All WMAC for 2 years; plus All State and All National. All of Dave Esty's professors give him the highest rating possible, with one expressing the man's values this way, "I feel that David, with his teaching techniques, enthusiasm, great interest in students, and his positive attitude, will become an excellent classroom teacher."

Our Mission

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
