Born June 5,1982, Mike's football career began in the South Portland youth program when he was in the sixth grade. He played as an offensive and defensive lineman through his interscholastic seasons until his junior year when he moved to linebacker.

After having played freshman football Mike became a 3 year starter and letter winner for the Red Riots, serving as team Captain his senior year. He played in three Western Maine Championships, winning in 1999, and going on to win the State Championship against Oxford Hills at V.M.O.

Mike utilized his talents for his team's offense, playing guard, tackle, or tight end. He did a consis­tently outstanding job opening up holes for the running backs. He has been noticed by many and, after having performed at a high level, has received various awards recognizing his talents. Some of those awards and honors include: the Gerry Raymond Outstanding Lineman Award, All-State Offensive Guard, First Team All-Conference Offensive Guard and All-State Linebacker. Having achieved team and individual success in football, Mike will represent South Portland in the Shrine football game this summer.

Outside of football Mike is the defending State Track Champion in the indoor and outdoor shot put and discus. Last summer he competed in the discus at the Junior World Championship in Bydgocz, Poland, finishing 14th.

Mike plans to attend the University of Maine on a full football scholarship with an undeclared major. He is the son of Jaclyn Leconte and the late Brian Leconte.

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
