Katie Stailing

Katie is ranked in the top 15% of her class of 190 with a GPA of 92. She has been accepted to attend the University of Rhode Island with a major in Broadcast Journalism. She is the daughter of Kenny and Kathy Stailing.

Katie captained the Shipbuilders as a junior and as a senior in Soccer, Basketball, and Softball. In softball Katie was named to the KVAC second team. As a goalie in soccer she was named as a KVAC and AlI-State selection and received her team's MVP honors. And, in basketball her awards have been numerous. Her school has dedicated a plaque in the school lobby to honor her contributions. As a two-time All-State selection Katie has received a full basketball scholarship to play at the University of Rhode Is­land. "Katie always played the game the right way; hard-nosed, ag­gressive and with a great deal of confidence in herself and in her teammates."

Katie is very involved with her school and community. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Band, Choir, and Newspaper. She attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Camp and was a delegate to Dirigo Girls' State. Outside school she has volunteered coaching girls in youth sports and has worked in the Youth Outreach Program among several other activities. "It is Katie's attitude, however, that makes her truly outstanding. Katie is always positive, caring, and enthusiastic. She is a natural leader who leads by example."

Our Mission

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
