Kari Leonard

Kari is ranked in the second highest honors threshold in her class of 84 with a GPA of 90.11. She has been accepted to attend the University of Rhode Island with a major in Nursing. She is the daughter of John and Rebecca Leonard.

Kari has been an All State competitor with the Falcons swim team. She has been Southwestern Maine champion in the 5000 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 back, and 200 individual medley. She also has been State Champion in the 100 back 200 freestyle, and 100 butterfly. "Kari has broken various conference and state records and holds all of her school's team records. Kari spends every afternoon at the local YMCA assisting with her age group team, training special needs children for the Special Olympics, and giving extra to her peers on the high school team.

Though the majority of Kari's focus is on swimming, she still finds time to be editor of the yearbook and be a member of Select Choir and the Band. "She has made good use of her intellectual/artistic/athletic strengths, talents, and abilities; and she has been willing to challenge herself as a student, performing artist, and athlete. Her goodwill, sportsmanship, and leadership are inspiring."

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
