Andrew Ward

Andrew Ward has participated in basketball and baseball in his four years at Cheverus High School in Portland. A three-year member of the varsity basketball team, he was a member of the SMAA All-Rookie Team in 2000-2001 and has served as team captain for two seasons. A member of Cheverus's 2003 Western Maine Class A championship team, Andrew was named to the SMAA All-Academic Team and the Maine Sunday Telegram All-State Honorable Mention Team.

In addition, he received the Gary Randall Award. A two-time SMAA All-Star in baseball, he served as his team's captain during his senior season.

Andrew has been active in other areas of life at Cheverus, including service to the Key Club and mentoring programs. He was his school's representative to the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program and has been class president on one occasion. He has received several academic awards, including a Bronze Award for Religion and the Princeton Book Award. Andrew has a career grade point average of 3.76 in a challenging curriculum, which includes several advanced placement courses. He is planning to attend Columbia University in the fall. Andrew is the son of Michelle and James Ward of Limington.

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
