A two-sport athlete at Massabesic High School in Waterboro, Steven Belanger has participated as a four-year member of both the football and outdoor track teams. As a freshman in 2000, he was a member of Mustangs' Class A state championship squad. Steven has been a two-way starter for the past three years and was the team's primary ball carrier in 2003. For his accomplishments on the gridiron, Steven was named his team's Most Improved Player in 2002 and Most Valuable Player during the past fall. He has also been recognized on a league-wide level and earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors as well as being named to the SMAA All-Academic team in 2003. This July Steve will represent Massabesic in the annual Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic. An accomplished long jumper, Steve also excels in track and served as team captain for his team during his senior season.
Steve ranks ninth in his class of 209 and has a career average of 93.94 in the classroom. In addition to his athletic prowess, he has been very involved in school activities as well. A member of the National Honor Society and National Honor Roll Society, he has done considerable volunteer work with special education students in a physical education class and earned a service award for his efforts. Steven also was selected to be a Celebrity Reader at Lyman Elementary School and has assisted with the Lyman Elementary Youth Basketball program.
Steve has been accepted to both the University of New England and Northeastern University in Boston. His intended major is physical therapy with an emphasis on sports medicine and athletic training. Steve is the son of Reynold and Sara Belanger of Lyman.

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
