Peter Carlisle
Born on January 30, 1968 in Charlotteville, Virginia

Peter was a nationally ranked college tennis player and won the Maine college doubles championship in 1990. He also was a defenseman for the Bates College hockey team. Peter was also a member of Cape Elizabeth's state championship hockey team in 1983 before transferring to Northfield Hermon School where he was stand hockey and tennis player. He has been representing athletes since 1996. Prior to his sports management career, he practiced business law in a Portland, Maine law firm. He completed University of Southern Maine School of Business, University of Maine School of Law (J.D. 1994), Bates College (B.A. 1991) and Northfield Mount Hermon School (1987). He has affiliations as Adjunct Prof. of Sports Law, UNH, as a member of American Sports Lawyers Association, as a member of Maine and New Hampshire Bars and as a member of Bates College Varsity Tennis Team. He oversees the management and marketing of Octagon's clients including contract negotiations, endorsements, public/media relations and licensing and merchandising opportunities. He represents leading action sports and Olympic athletes, including record swimmer, world champ Ian Crocker of Portland and countryman Michael Phelps, who won the 100 meter butterfly at the Santa Clara International swimming meet. Street and Smith's Sports Business Journal selected him number 16 of the 20 most influential people: sports agents.

Cartisle is recognized for his involvement in non-traditional sports, and was one of the first agents to recognize the value of action sports. He represented four snowboarders who won medals at the 2002 Winter Olympics - Kelly Clark, Ross Powers, Danny Kass and Chris Klug. Now Carlisle is the agent for swimmer Michael Phelps, who is expected to be the biggest story of this year's Summer Olympics in Athens. Carlisle hopes to cash in the gold and is leading the much-hyped pre-Games publicity of Phelps.

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
