Samuel Bowers
Born on January 22, 1987 in Bangor, Maine
Dexter High School

A three-sport performer at Dexter High School, Samuel Bowers has participated in soccer, basketball, and baseball. He is a four-year member of the varsity boys soccer squad, earned four varsity letters in that sport, and served as a co-captain during his junior and senior seasons. One of Eastern Maine's top goalkeepers, he helped lead his Dexter team to the 2003 Eastern Maine Class C championship and a regional runner-up berth the following year. In 2004, he was named as a First Team Penobscot Valley Conference All-Star.

Sam has also played varsity basketball for the Tigers for three seasons and was named 10 the McDonald's State All-Academic Team in 2004-2005. Sam is also a four-year member of the Dexter baseball squad and was named co-captain during his senior year.

Active in extra-curricular activities at his school, he has been the treasurer for his class for each of his four years. He has been active in Community Action Day and the Dexter High School Key Club. Sam has served as his school's National Honor Society president and was named a delegate to American Legion Boys State in 2004. In addition to his leadership roles, he has also shown an interest in dramatics and participated in the Senior Class Play.

An outstanding scholar, Sam was one of the top fifty scorers in the state on the Maine Educational Assessment test during his junior year. He has a career grade point average of 3.72 while taking a challenging course load, including advanced placement courses in calculus and United States history. He ranks second in his class of 78 pupils. Sam plans to continue his education at Bowdoin College, where his intended major is Biology. He is the son of Karyn and Michael Bowers of Dexter.

Our Mission

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
