A three-sport athlete at Brewer High School, Kate Hanlon has been active in field hockey, swimming, and softball. A four-year varsity field hockey starter, Kate captained the Witches in her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. Kate participated in the Penobscot Valley Conference Junior/Senior game on two occasions. After being named to her conference's second team All-Star squad as a junior, she capped off her successful career by being named first team All-PVC in 2004 and being selected to the All-State squad. Kate has also been a three-year member of the Brewer varsity softball squad. The talented first baseman helped lead her club to conference titles in 2003 and 2004 and an Eastern Maine championship in her junior year.

Kate is one of the state's top swimmers and has qualified for the class A state championship meet on four occasions and medaled during her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. The top swimmer in the breaststroke event on her team, she also anchored several of Brewer's relay teams. She was a finalist for events in her conference championship meet for four years and named a National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association Top 16 performer for three seasons. Kate was recognized for her excellence in the pool and in the classroom by being named a NISCA All-American in 2005.

Involved in the extra-curricular life of Brewer High School, Kate has been part of the Key Club, the Junior Exhibition, and the Brewer peer tutor program. A natural leader, she is an officer in the Brewer National Honor Society. She is the recipient of several scholastic awards, including the Seven Sisters' Book Award, the SeBeowulf English Honor Club, and the Superintendent's Scholastic Award.

Kate sports a career average of 94.63 in a rigorous course load including several advanced placement classes. She ranks ninth in her class of 160. Kate plans to continue her education at the University of Maine in Orono, where she will major in nursing. She is the daughter of Nancy and John Hanlon of Brewer.

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
