Caroline Summa

A three-sport standout at Cheverus High School in Portland, Caroline Summa participated in cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field during her four-year career. Caroline was a member of the Cheverus cross country team for three seasons and was a member of the 2009 and 2010 Class A state champions.

Caroline has distinguished herself as one of the finest track and field athletes in the Southwestern Maine Activities Association and has quickly earned a reputation as one of the top high jumpers in New England. She is her school record holder in the indoor high jump and set a league mark in winning an individual SMAA title in that event in 2009. She was runner-up in the event in the Class A state meet during both her junior and senior years. Caroline won a Class A state title in 2010 in the outdoor high jump and holds school records in the triple jump and 400 meter dash.

In addition to her involvement in athletics, Caroline has been very active in community service in the greater Portland area. She volunteers with the Maine Island Trails Association and maintains the Chebeaque Island School Garden. She participates during the summer months with the Cultivating Community organization, where she helps to maintain two urban farms. At Cheverus, she is a member of the Haiti Solidarity Club and the school's Green Team.

An excellent student, Caroline has a grade point average of 3.88 in a challenging curriculum that includes several Advanced Placement courses. She will attend Oberlin College in the fall and major in its Environmental Studies program. Caroline is the daughter of Geoff and Laura Summa of Chebeaque Island.

Our Mission

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
