The Board of Directors of the Maine Sports Hall of Fame have voted to recognize Owen W. Wells' huge contributions to the lives of thousands of Maine citizens and many Maine cities and towns with the Maine Sports Hall of Fame's Lifetime Achievement Award.

As President of the Libra Foundation, Owen's accomplishments have had a positive impact on the lives of Maine people from every walk of life. This Award, however, is specifically intended to recognize his visionary leadership and extraordinary commitments to the creation of the world-class winter sports facilities and programs in Maine. By setting the highest standards, investing millions of dollars, and energizing entire communities, Owen's leadership has revolutionized winter sports activities throughout Maine to the lasting benefit of our fellow citizens.

2011 produced two spectacular biathlon events in Northern Maine bringing the best possible international recognition to our state. Beyond those major events, championship skiing has taken place in Rumford, Presque Isle, and Mars Hill - and hundreds more enjoy the magnificent cross country skiing through the beautiful trails at Pineland every day.

As he transitions from fulltime leadership activities with the Libra Foundation this year, the Maine Sports Hall of Fame recognizes Owen W. Wells' tremendous contributions to Maine athletics and athletes with its Lifetime Achievement Award.
