Samuel Seekins

One of the standout distance runners in Maine schoolboy athletics, Samuel Seekins has participated in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track at Erskine Academy in South China. A three-time winner of his team's Most Valuable Runner award, Sam was Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B champion and Eastern Maine Class B champion in both 2008 and 2009. He was a KVAC All-Conference selection during both years and as a junior was named to the Maine Track and Cross Country Coaches Association All-State team.

Sam has also demonstrated excellence in indoor and outdoor track. He was KVAC champion in both the mile and two mile runs during his junior season and finished fourth in the Class B state meet in both events. Last season he repeated his conference titles in both events and was state runner-up in the two-mile. In outdoor track Sam has earned three KVAC individual titles and was Class B state champion in both the 1,600 meter and 3,200 meter runs in 2009. For his efforts he was named a First-Team All-State performer in 2009.

In addition to his exploits in distance running, Sam is also a student leader in his school. He has been on the Erskine Academy math team and has served as a math lab tutor. A member of the National Honor Society, he has earned both the Renaissance Award and recognition for excellence in pre-calculus. He has also dedicated service to children by hosting a literacy night for early elementary students.

Samuel has a career average of 95.100 and ranks 3rd in his class of 193 students. He is interested in majoring in civil or environmental engineering and plans to attend the University of Maine, Dartmouth, or Bowdoin. He is the son of William and Linda Seekins and resides in South China.

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
