Joshua Maxwell

Joshua Maxwell has participated in soccer, indoor track and field, and outdoor track in field in his four years at Gorham High School. Josh is a four-year varsity performer for an outstanding Gorham indoor track squad. He has twice served as captain for the Rams, and his leadership and athletic prowess helped propel his team to a runner-up finish in the Class A state championship meet during the past season. One of the most talented perfomers in the SMAA, he was a first-team all-conference performer in both the intermediate relay and junior hurdles.

Josh also excels in outdoor track where he demonstrates both skill and versatility in events such as the 100-meter dash, the 110-meter hurdles, the high jump, and the 4x100 relay. Josh was an all-conference athlete in the hurdles, relay, and 100-meter dash. He also was named by the Maine Sunday Telegram as an all-state performer in the high jump.

In addition to his athletic prowess, Josh is highly involved in life at Gorham High School in a variety of other areas. He participates on his school's math team and Spanish Club and is involved with the Gorham Bocce Club. Josh assists his coach with the middle school track program and continues his work with area youth in the summer in both track and field and soccer. He has also served as a volunteer in the Special Olympics.

Josh is an outstanding scholar as evidenced by his career average of 94.184 in a rigorous academic program. He has applied to the University of Rhode Island, Virginia Tech, Penn State, and the University of Maine. Josh's goal is to study mechanical engineering. He is the son of Raymond Maxwell and Belinda Stuart of Gorham.

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
