Doug Friedman accepts coaching job at Western Connecticut

Maine Sports Hall of Fame Executive Director Dough Friedman has accepted the Head Ice Hockey Coach position at Western Connecticut. The Wolves will begin play in the fall of 2025. The former NHL player has been forced to step back from his duties with the MSHOF and focus his attention on his new team in Danbury, Connecticut.

Doug successfully led MSHOF for more than a year and a half during a difficult time. The Lewiston tragedy occurred just four days before the 2023 Induction Ceremony.  MSHOF postponed its ceremony for a year, added a small 2024 class of just four members and successfully put on a magnificent ceremony at Portland's Merrill in September.  For the first time, the ceremony was broadcast on a delayed basis by Maine Public Television.

Former Executive Director Bill Green will step back into the leadership roll through the 2025 ceremony. "Doug was tremendous!" said Bill. "Some guys are just natural-born leaders and Doug is one.  It's going to be exciting to follow his progress with the new program."

MSHOF is extending its inductee nomination period until January 15, 2025.  If you know of someone who is worthy of nomination, please fill out an application that can be found on this mshof.com website.
