Five Scholar-Athletes to receive $5,000 MSHOF Scholarships

PORTLAND, Maine — Five outstanding high school student-athletes will receive $5,000 scholarships from the Maine Sports Hall of Fame at its 40th annual awards luncheon at noon Sunday, May 3, at the Augusta Civic Center.

The scholar-athletes recipients are Caleb Abbott of Freeport High School, Kevin Barrett of Thornton Academy in Saco, Caleb Gauvin of Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, Lydia Roy of Waterville Senior High School and Kathryn Taylor of Noble High School in North Berwick.

MSHOF 2015 Banquet

PORTLAND, Maine — The Maine Sports Hall of Fame class of 2015 includes a philanthropist, sports agent, Olympic gold medal rower and stars of the National Hockey League and Major League Soccer, announced organization president Dick Whitmore.

Richard L. Whitmore, President of MSHOF, announced the retirement of Executive Director Thaxter Trafton and the appointment of Mary Mitchell Friedman as the Interim Executive Director, effective October 1, 2014.

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
